dead. His mother remarries. His sister goes

crazy. His best friend is the only person

he can trust. What will happen?

Lord of the Flies

Written by William Golding (1954)

A group of British boys are stranded on an

island. What will they do to survive? How

will they maintain order? How will they

get off the island? What could go wrong?

Frankenstein

Written by Mary Shelley (1818)

This epistolary novel focuses on Victor

Frankenstein and his creation. Frankenstein

creates his subject in a cruel science

experiment with parts from local cemeteries.

However, after the Creature is made, things

go into disarray.

You will write a literary analysis for only Lord of the Flies and Frankenstein. There is no page limit on these papers.

You will also write a 5-page research paper; the argument of which, will be your choice. However, the topic must be approved by me prior to research.

Lord of the Flies Assignment

While reading Lord of the Flies, students will fill out a packet, found here. The packet will include a character map, vocabulary terms, and some provoking questions about what it means to be civilized.

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian

Written by Sherman Alexie (2007)

This book seems like an autobiography because it mimics a lot of Sherman Alexie's life growing up. However, he claims that this book is not an autobiography. This book does follow a Native American who lives on a reservation and goes to school. The main character, Arnold, has a difficult home life.

Uglies Series

Written by Scott Westerfeld (2005)

This sci-fi novel focuses on a young girl named Tally, who is awaiting the day she turns 16 because she gets to be one of the pretties after receiving surgery. However, when she goes to a party on the pretties side, she recognizes an old friend, who is no longer the same person - not just on the outside, but on the inside too.
